What it's like to be a host

Being a Capacity Crowd host is all about creating an atmosphere where people can let loose, laugh with friends, and enjoy themselves. You’ll be the one with the mic (or maybe just a clipboard), guiding people through the event, answering questions, giving out prizes, and making the night run smoothly.

We provide the content, the tools, and the backup. You bring the personality. Whether you’re hosting general knowledge trivia or a 2000s-themed brunch, your job is to be the face of the fun: someone who keeps things light, keeps them moving, and keeps the crowd engaged.

It’s low pressure, high enjoyment. You’ll have a clear event brief, plenty of time to prepare, and all the tools you need to succeed. You’re encouraged to make the role your own. No two event hosts are the same, and that’s what we love.

And yes, it’s a paid gig! You get compensated for your time, your talent, and the joy you bring to the room. We pride ourselves on having a fast turnaround in paying our people.

Benefits & perks

Traits that make a great host

You don’t need stage experience or a broadcast-quality voice. What you do need is a natural way with people and a willingness to own the room. Bonus points if you love pop culture, random facts, playlists from every decade, and the joy of helping strangers become mates. But ultimately, we want people who care about giving others a great night out.

Warmth & Approachability

You’re someone people instantly feel comfortable around. Whether it’s a packed pub or a cosy bar, your presence makes the space feel welcoming.

Confidence

But not arrogance! You’re happy being on the mic, guiding the crowd, and keeping energy levels high without trying to steal the spotlight.

Quick Thinking

You can roll with whatever happens. Maybe the projector breaks, maybe a table gets a little too rowdy—you stay cool and adapt with a smile.

Clear Communicator

You can explain the rules, read the questions, and keep things moving without confusion.

Reliability

If you commit to a gig, we know you’ll be there, prepped and ready to go.

Our culture

At Capacity Crowd, we work with people, not resumes. We’ve got event hosts who are teachers, artists, students, parents, full-time entertainers, and people just looking for something fun and flexible on the side.

Flexibility: Do one gig or twenty. Work only Thursdays or pick up a last-minute Sunday brunch. Your schedule, your call.

Support: You’re never left to figure it out alone. You’ll get clear materials, tech guidance, and a team that’s just a message away.

Creative Freedom: We give you a format, but the tone, delivery, and energy is up to you. If people are smiling, you’re doing it right.

Fun: We’re in the business of joy. That should include you too.

Open roles

We’re currently looking for hosts in:

Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Perth, and regional areas (we’ve got gigs popping up everywhere!)

Additionally, if you’ve got a venue in your area and a great attitude, we’d love to help you turn your local into the next big thing. Let us know how we can team up to bring our format and your talent to their space.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to have a screen, TVs, or a microphone to run an event?

No, but we will find out what you have in the venue on initial contact and work with what you have, and bring in what you don’t.

Can I choose my host?

Depending on your location, we’ll have a panel of available entertainers that we can match and recommend to you and your event. We will gather your preferences to ensure we’re on the same page about who would be best suited for your space.

How do I pay?

We send an invoice at the start of each month, payable by direct deposit or credit card.

How long before I can run my first event?

We can determine this via a quick chat. Depending on your event type and space, we can be up and running in a matter of days. Some formats require additional planning and marketing time, but we’re able to quickly understand and guide you based on your needs.

Sound like your vibe? Let’s talk.
